This online cutting kit course includes a step-by-step therapy program, a fun workbook with progressive activities, and child-safe scissors. Resources are delivered upon ordering, helping children build safe scissor use, proper grip, and cutting control in a confidence-based, practical, stress-free way in the comfort of your home.
Cutting with scissors is more than just a fun craft activity for children—it’s a foundational skill that supports hand strength, coordination, and overall fine motor development. At Sensia, we understand that learning to cut correctly can set the stage for success in many daily tasks, from writing to self-care.
Why Cutting Skills Are Important
Cutting is a complex activity that requires a combination of skills, including:
Hand strength and dexterity: Holding and controlling scissors requires strong, coordinated muscles in the hands and fingers.
Bilateral coordination: Using both hands together—one to hold the paper, one to cut—is essential for many everyday tasks.
Hand-eye coordination: Children must track lines and shapes while adjusting their scissor movements accordingly.
Visual motor skills: Cutting along a line strengthens a child’s ability to plan and execute precise movements.
Developing these skills correctly is crucial. Without proper technique, children may struggle with writing, drawing, and even self-care tasks like buttoning clothes. Incorrect cutting habits, such as using the wrong hand positioning or finger placement, can also lead to fatigue, frustration, or even injury.
Who Is This Program For?
Our cutting skills program is designed for children who are developing early fine motor skills and would benefit from structured, step-by-step support.
Snip, Cut & Create is ideal for:
Preschool children (ages 3–5)
Children who are just being introduced to scissors and are learning how to snip, hold scissors correctly, and use both hands together.

Children with fine motor challenges
This includes children who may have reduced hand strength, coordination difficulties, delayed motor development, or who require extra practice to master foundational skills.
Families wanting structured practice at home
Our therapy at home approach allows families to work through activities in their own time, with clear guidance designed by occupational therapists.

Course FAQ’s
-
The program was created by qualified paediatric occupational therapists who work with children to support skill development in areas like hand function, coordination, and school readiness.

Yes! The activities are graded (progressive), meaning they start simple and build up as your child’s confidence and control improve. The program is also designed with sensory-friendly and motor-support strategies used by therapists.
-
Most activities take about 10–15 minutes and can be easily added into your weekly routine. Consistency matters more than duration. Short, regular practice is best.
-
If your child shows interest in using scissors or enjoys activities that involve hand coordination (like drawing, tearing paper, or using playdough), they may be ready! The program starts with pre-cutting skills, so even beginners can join in.
-
The program includes guidance for both left- and right-handed children, with tips to help support correct scissor grip and paper positioning.
-
Cutting works on fine motor control, bilateral coordination (using both hands together), hand strength, and visual-motor integration, all of which are important for writing, dressing, and self-care tasks.
